This is a festival especially celebrated in Mithila. Mithilanchal dedicates this festival to the celebration of the brother-sister relationship. It represents the tradition of this land as well as the art of making idols. This festival starts with the welcoming of the pair of birds Sama-Chakeva.

Saurath is a village situated six Kilometers northeast of Madhubani town in Madhubani District of Bihar. It is famous for being the place where thousands of Maithil Brahaman converged to fix marriage during the marriage season. The people gathered at Saurath Sabha Gachchhi (Sabha means congregation and Gachchhi means orchard in Maithili).

In this Mithila Painting, Goddess Durga is shown riding on a Lion. She is shown with eight hands, which might be done to show that she is Vaishnavi. A hallow is shown behind the head of Durga. She is holding weapons in all her hands to kill the demons and one hand is for giving blessings.
