This painting is out of paintings from the first Mithila painting exhibition by Antiquecraft Private Limited with website partner MithilanchalGroup. This was an attempt to provide a platform to Madhubani Painting artists to showcase their talents. The exhibition was organised at Arpana Art Gallery, New Delhi in June 2016.
This painting is from the series of “Festivals of Mithila” Anant Chaturdashi signifies the complete relevance of the Festival. Anant is the name of the lord in whose name Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated. Anant Chaturdashi falls on the fourteenth bright day in Bhadrapada Month.
Anant Chaturdashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Rituals are followed wholeheartedly. Gatherings of women invoke life to this festival.
In our painting, you will witness how women’s come together and take a vow in the Name of Lord Anant. Devotees keep a wooden plank with 14 Tilaks along with an offering of Puris, Puaas, Panchamrit.
The celebrations of the festival comes to end when Devotees tie the Anant Sutra on the wrist which you can see right down in Painting. Anant Sutra is a sacred thread with 14 knots men wear it on the right wrist while women wear it on the left wrist it protects from evil. Scientifically, 14 glands in the human body are interconnected. The action of invoking Lord Vishnu results in him attracted to these knots.
